Abstract

Few doctors manage to leave such deep traces among their colleagues as did Dr. Gloria Garavito, an endocrinologist who traced in Colombia the paths to study and treat patients with endocrine gland neoplasms in a different way, applying the concepts of personalized medicine and with a multidisciplinary approach. Therefore, its absence causes a great void in almost all medical and surgical specialties. We met her through her publications, through her presentations at national and international congresses, at multidisciplinary medical boards and as a professor at the National Cancer Institute, but also at friends' meetings. Dr. Gloria was above all authentic, and in all situations she showed the same disposition to teach and to learn, with a strong character, but also, with a good sense of humor. Her family, and especially her sister Sara, wanted to share with us some aspects of her personal life and her academic training: Gloria was born and raised in a family of 7 siblings. The family was her north and she, the engine of the family. His great passion was studying and learning. In 1978 he graduated in medicine from the Javeriana University and in 1981 he finished his specialization in internal medicine also at the Javeriana University, having developed his clinical practice at the Hospital de la Samaritana. In 1983 he traveled to Paris, France and began his training in endocrinology at the Saint Antoine Hospital until June 1984 and returned to Colombia to continue his training as an endocrinology resident at the Hospital Militar Central de Bogotá.
