Abstract

The Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic Image (MRSI) provides biochemical information regarding tissue metabolism, allowing the characterization of some brain metabolites of a certain area of the brain. A great advance has been made in relation to the research and development of this technique in tumors of Glial origin of the Central Nervous System. MRSI is a non-invasive method that makes it possible to determine the type of injury, to avoid unnecessary biopsies and provides information that contributes to the classification of tumors, allowing the improvement in the precision of the diagnosis and the determination of better treatment strategies. Given the importance of this technique as an advance tool in the field of oncological medicine, a review of the literature was carried out in order to describe the fundamentals and applications of the molecular imaging approach emphasizing the state of current use of this technique in some countries of the ibero-american region.
