Abstract

Objective: To characterize and establish the survival of pediatric patients with lymphoma treated at the National Cancer Institute of Colombia during the period 1980-2001.
Methods: Clinical records of nineteen patients were reviewed, diagnosis was confirmed by morphology, and immune-phenotype was established with CD20, CD30, CD43, CD45RB, CD45RO, CD68, CD3, ALK, tdt and S-100 antibodies. Associations were established by using Fischer’s exact test, Kaplan-Meier’s method for survival, and the log rank test to compare survival trends.
Results: Ten patients were girls; the age median was eleven years, with a range between three and sixteen years. Seven cases presented lymphoma at the neck, which was the most frequent localization. Nine patients were at stage I; the most frequent immune-phenotype was that of T cells, with eleven cases. Thirteen patients presented complete remission. After two years, event-free survival was 47.3%, diseasefree survival was 99.8%, and global survival 68%. After five years, event-free survival was 28,8%.
Conclusion: A bigger number of patients must be studied in order to establish more precise estimations concerning clinical features and survival.
